March for America
On March 21st, 2010 members of the UUCD Social Action Committee escorted 44 immigrants from our Danbury community to the March for America in Washington DC.

On Sunday, March 21st 44 excited passengers boarded a bright red DATTCO tour bus and headed for Washington.

Jimmy, Rudolph Sanchez and Lynn get ready to lead the marchers from Union Station to the Capitol.

Union Station is a maze of trains, shops and restaurants so we all agreed to hit the banos and meet outside at the fountain. Ana and Camila waited patiently for stragglers. Let’s go! Vamanos

We need to march to that Capitol to demand reforma migratoria.

Finally everyone gathers to March for America.

We are a family by the time we reach the National Mall. Chris Halfar and Jini Lander are wearing straw hats.

Here comes our Ecuadorian Association banner.

Let them know that we are here! We are the face of America!

They came from near and far.

Young and old.

Methodists, Catholics, Muslims and Jews.

Republicans, Democrats, Independents…liberals and conservatives.

Yes, it takes courage to travel to Washington to ask for fairness…..

….and divine intervention.

The inherent worth and dignity of 500,000 humanos was palpable.

Somos todos humanos.

This is the face of America. Her name is Maria. She lives in Danbury and brought her daughter to the March.

This is the face of America. His name is Ernesto. And he is marching for fairness.
