 2nd -3rd Grade Group 

Curriculum:  "Faithful Journeys" by Alice Anachedka-Nasemann and Lynn Unger, Susan Dana Lawrence  (A Tapestry of Faith Program from the Unitarian Universalist Association)

 

Participants each week will embark on a pilgrimage of faith, exploring how Unitarian Universalism translates into life choices and everyday actions.  The sessions include historic and contemporary examples of UU faith in action from a diverse group of people. The sessions are structured around Unitarian Universalists principles and affirm that there are many kinds of actions that express them.

 

All sessions include hands-on activities as well as guided discussion, reflection, and self-expression to engage participants with various learning styles.  Also included are opening words, a chalice lighting, centering before hearing a story, and music.

·         Children will explore the spiritual sense of home for the family and faith community, (experience a labyrinth walk,  graces and blessings before a meal)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Exploration of the kinship of ancestors in faith to create a beloved community that extends both backward and forward in time, (wisdom stories from many cultures and times as well as Unitarian Universalism)

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Prepare children to understand growing up as a way of making meaning and finding purpose that may happen when they are away from home. (stories of the Prodigal son or Mohammed going to Mecca) .

 

 

 

·         Observation of the natural world to learn how some animals and functions aid in our family homes, (bees, nature walks and stories)
