6th-8th Graders meets at 11 AM most other Sundays for
- Sept. 18th - Dance to the Offbeat - a comedic look at stereotypes and try offbeat dancing to a variety of music (youth bring).
- His Good Will - For Social Action Sunday kick-off - This short is set in 1950's southern US it is a reminder of making assumptions about people and that no matter what's in your pocket you can be generous.
- Flawed - Looks at self image, and what messages we may receive from others. Affirming and creatively presented by the artist. Water color meditation.
- Across the Hall - Immigrant boys go trick or treating in a diverse building in Spanish Harlem. A moving film that brings up many questions of accepting differences, learning about our neighbors.
- Mendel's Tree - An orthodox Jew, who loves Christmas, gets a call his parents are on their way to visit unexpectedly. (Funny! and a great conversation starter about celebrating holidays and family traditions...)
- Grazie Al Cielo / Thank Heavens - An Italian film about a person who whines until an angel is sent to straighten him out. A chance to explore which religions believe in angels and their ideas of angels.
Neighboring Faiths (periodically presented)
This program is a favorite of the UUCD Community and we present it every three years. Youth will be exposed to a variety of faiths and will explore the beliefs and practices.
Often the group will spend a week on-site getting acquainted with a one faith tradition, next they will visit the spiritual home, and then follow-up on-site again to process what they saw, felt and learned. But due to the church calendar/holidays these sessions may not be in consecutive order.
Group leaders will let families know via email the location, times of visits and parents are welcome to join them (another good reason to fill out a Registration form with that information)!
